General

I am a primary school teacher living in Bearsden, near Glasgow in Scotland. I have been teaching for more years than I care to remember. Over these years I have developed a particular interest in using computers and other aspects of ICT in education, both as learning and teaching tool and as a medium for delivering the curriculum.

My education authority, East Dunbartonshire Council, are following the path of using PCs based on the RM Window Box, although some Mackintosh computers are still in use in our schools. My own preferred computer system, however, is called RiscOS, which is the continuation of the earlier Acorn computers. The computer is powered by an ARM Ltd processor called StrongARM which was designed in Cambridge (UK). This ARM processor is a RISC processor (Reduced Instruction Set Chip) which sets it apart from the more familiar CISC processors (Complex Instruction Set Chip) as its simpler design gives a much more efficient speed in usage, particularly with graphics. The other advantage is that the majority of the OS is chip based, so it is much less vulnerable to viruses

The only problem is that my poor old brain has to flit between three different operating systems, and it gets harder as my beard gets greyer.

A Little About The Quails

My branch of the Quail family have been living here in the West of Scotland since the middle of the 19th century. I do not have any great knowledge about our genealogy, but I have included a few snippits for interested parties. I have had quite a few emails from Quails firth of Scotland, who are keen to check if we are in any way related. If you wish to know what info I have, then click on the Old Quails button below and you will find out if this lady on the right is one of your long lost ancestors! The other buttons are, I hope, self explanatory.
